Landscaping the Front Yard

All I can say is ... "it's about time!"

I came home from work today to the wonderful sight of landscapers actually working in our yard! More than two weeks ago, they had ripped it up and, with the exception of an extremely tall and bushy 54-year-old shade tree, removed every piece of green vegetation from the front yard. For the past two weeks, our yard has looked like the surface of Mars. Just a bunch of reddish-brown clay with no sign of life.

The landscapers have been coming and going as they please, but finally, they decided it was time to finish the new sprinkler system and lay the sod.

So while it's still a big soggy mess out there, with plenty of mud all over the sidewalks and our front porch, I'm ecstatic that we are no longer the eyesore of the neighborhood. Frankly, I was getting a little embarrassed at the sad state of affairs our front yard had become.

Not knowing when the landscapers would be back was even more frustrating because I never knew from one day to the next if it was OK to wash my car. The last time I washed my car, the landscapers came that day. Within an hour, my car was covered with a solid film of dirt that had been blown up by the shovelling and rototilling.

They'll be back on Friday to finish up some of the flower beds closest to the street. But for now, it's nice to see life in our front yard again! I think I'll just go sit on our front porch swing and enjoy the view!
